The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in implementing replay technology.
Video review systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.
Athletes are granted the right to question particular calls from the official, following the protocol already in use at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move follows just a season following the All England Club introduced ELC, which brought an end to the centuries-old role of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can request the official to review specific decisions, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Notably, there will be no limit on the number of challenges a player can request.
Practical Application
A recent example occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a tough call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the rally to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
Video reviews are not exclusive to major tournaments. It was adopted at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system implemented at every one of its tournaments.
Additional Innovations
A further change at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This solves situations where fans have sometimes been unsure if a shot was in or out.
Finally, with precisely 100 days to go until the start of the tournament, organizers have further announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
