The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, supported by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour title, gained dominance to push for a third set.

He saved four early break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
