PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
